History Lives Campaign for Ballarat Tourism

Finally the first and now second image for our 3 image campaign for Ballarat Regional Tourism has been released.

I was so excited to win this tender as the brief was creative, challenging and was a perfect opportunity to work with some of Melbourne's finest creatives. 

 ‘HISTORY LIVES IN BALLARAT" Campaign emphasises Ballarat’s strength as a regional Victorian tourism destination and offers a new perspective on the range of history and heritage experiences available to Ballarat’s visitors. The campaign centres on a print campaign depicting some of the history-making moments that have been cleverly combined with modern-day Ballarat

CINEMATOGRAPHY AND ALL THAT IT INSPIRES

Now days many photographer's I love are calling themselves photographer/cinematographer ( Thanks to the HD capabilities of various SLR camera's)
I too have ventured into the moving image as seen in CocoRosies- Gallows.

Much of my visual inspiration comes from music videos and I want to share some of these inspirations with you across the next few weeks.

adidas Party - Photostudio -

A few weeks ago, Little Hero PR and Vice Magazine approached me with a brief to construct a photostudio for the launch party of adidas Originals by RANSOM. The event was inspired by "Canadian outdoor playgrounds" and was aptly titled Into The Wild.

The campaign images feature breathtaking Canadian landscapes, water, snow and dense pine-forests. The Element Collection (shoes) use captivating photographic images representing forest backdrops and ice glaciers as their fabric print.

With so much texture and thematic inspiration I went on a pilgrimage to find the perfect backdrop for the studio. Printing an image large enough for a studio background wasn't feasible so I had to find an existing backdrop. After visiting dozens of theatre companies, prop shops, wallpaper designers and painters, I finally found an amazing shop in Ferntree Gully - selling hundreds of vintage murals. I could have walked away with dozens of fabulous scenes but sadly I didn't have room in my car (each mural is 4 meters wide and comes in 8 sections). Here are some of the highlights:

This one above is the image we used combined with fake snow, wood piles, a fake axe and various feathered friends.

The guests brought so much enthusiasm to their portrait sessions, making the night a successful and enjoyable experience. Below are some of the portraits from the night featuring Melbourne's finest "Lumberjacks".

I shot this portrait for Spook Magazine when the charismatic Andrew W.K. was in Melbourne for the BDO tour.

I have always been a huge fan of AWK and my prior shoot with him for Meredith a few years ago is still one of my favorite shoots to date. So when Spook asked me to shoot him again I was enthusiastically obliging.

The publicist informed us we had about 45 minutes so with the genius of art director/ production designer Esther Justin we took inspiration from AWK's love of all things red/white/bloody and made a hanging sculpture that was reminiscent of blood splatter (think Dexter).

I love packages in the mail! Today Voyeur magazine dropped on my doorstep. This magazine travels the globe entertaining passengers for at least 15 minutes of their many hour flight. This issue I photographed "Meals of Wheels". Celebrating the revolution of tasty food vans across Melbourne.

Director Brennan Stasiewicz Captures Fashion’s Enigma At Home and On Display

Documentary filmmaker Brennan Stasiewicz infiltrates the cosseted world of Daphne Guinness in Daphne’s Window. Featuring intimate footage of the icon at her Fifth Avenue apartment, the short follows the eccentric fashion patron and socialite as she prepares for her recent installation in the windows of Barneys New York. The storefront showcased her collection of pieces by designer Lee Alexander McQueen and a selection from the archive of fashion editor Isabella Blow, which Guinness purchased in its entirety last year. The display culminated in a performance art piece in which Guinness dressed for the Met ball in one of the flagship’s windows, modeling a lilac feathered gown designed by McQueen’s Sarah Burton. “She appears to me as someone always in a window,” says Stasiewicz. “Someone you can approach and see, but you remain on the other side.” This year brings a multitude of projects for the heiress: her sculptural armored glove collaboration with jeweler Shaun Leane (pictured in today’s film) will be exhibited by Jay Jopling in a private viewing in London later this month; and in September a retrospective at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology will pay homage to her style. “Daphne is someone to take pleasure in, and in many ways, someone who incites moments of wonder,” says Stasiewicz.

Most exciting commission yet! I photographed illustrator Shaun Tan for the NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE!
We spent the afternoon talking country living and playing with is bird Diego. I also held his Oscar which was heavy and awe inspiring. I have not received the hard copy of the magazine yet but a few shots are online now!

I have spent the last month shooting for Broadsheet Magazine. Photographing some of the best cafes, bars and shops that Melbourne has to offer. This week Red Door Cafe in Northcote is the star. Broadsheet is really worth adding to your favorites list if your interested in Melbourne life. If covers art, culture, food , adventure and everything in between.

Best Portrait Award - Centre Of Contemporary Photography

Last night I was photographing an event. It was a difficult gig and I ate dinner- a hotdog by myself at 11PM. Feeling grumpy and a little "over it" I trudged home.

Unbeknown to me, last night at The Centre Of Contemporary photography I won The Best Portrait Award for this image I took in Coney Island last year.

What a "Pick-Me-Up"! Thanks CCP - It's such an honor and really is just what I needed!
